That a thermarest, inflatable pad and my bag should keep me warm enough. I can also stuff all my extra close at the bottom for more insulation. :D

I think I will get it in Camo :D

This is the origin of the "Izzy is the spicy center of a grizzly bear chimichanga" for those that didn't know.

The Clark North American is the first four-season hammock and the most versatile tent ever built. Whether you are expecting six feet of snow or tropical conditions, the North American will serve you well. Every North American comes with two features you'll find nowhere else: First, the deployable WeatherShield zips in to transform the hammock into an enclosed tent, providing warmth, a wind break, or extra protection from rain and snow. Second, the insulating pocket system keeps you warmer in cold weather, removing the need for insulating pads.

The North American's insulating pockets double as storage space for your gear. These six pockets are located underneath the hammock where you may store your boots and other gear during the night. Two more pockets are located inside the hammock, handy for storing anything from a flashlight to a pistol. The North American's ropes are water-repelling polypropylene (1200 lb. test).

There are many reasons the hammock idea has been brought up for those that don't know. Since we have to cover a huge amount of mileage in a relatively short amount of time for our trip to Alaska, Izzy suggested we bring hammocks to cut down on the setup and teardown time for camping. As Brian-the-Weatherman noted we will have almost 24 hours of daylight in Alaska so the thought process was we would ride a few hundred miles, quickly setup our hammocks, grab a few hours of sleep, quickly teardown our hammocks, and ride another few hundred miles.

This not only gives us the ability to ride farther each day but it also gives us the flexibility to capitalize on the amount of daylight we'll have and camp whenever we want quickly with minimal hassel on the setup and teardown.

I will be ordering my Hammock in the next few weeks. I need to take it out and test it out, and Angry needs to take his new bike and test it out. I feel a trip coming soon.

I'm sure I'll be getting a hammock as well... that thing looks perfect for what we want.

As far as a trip "soon"... I'd love to go... haven't been camping in a couple of years. However, I'm a bit tied up for the next month. Nothing big, just the funeral of independant Loren, and a couple weeks in Hawaii.

After that... I'm all kinds of ready for a camping trip... bikes or wives, either way.

The hammock sounds really cool and all, and I would love to get one regardless, but my only concern is the whole tree dependency. Also, if there ends up being a lot of wind, which is likely if we're on the coast, I don't want to be blowing all over the place. I found a couple tents that I'm thinking about. They're lighter, cheaper, and one has great reviews on REI.

The clark can be setup on the ground like a tent. From the research I have done, it is much easier to sleep in the hammock in strong wind than it is on the ground in the tent flapping all over the place. You may get some rocking motion, but remember this tent is quite sturdy, and heavy once you load all your gear and stuff in to it. And since its tight and compact you wont get all the flapping from a tent.

The only reason I dont have one yet is because they are so expensive!!!

And most of my camping is in the desert where I dont need a tent or hammock
